» CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character NAME: Wendy Watson
Canon & MEDIUM: The Middleman: TV series
Canon PULL-POINT: Between 1.12, The Palindrome Reversal Palindrome, and the unaired 13th episode, The Doomsday Armageddon Apocalypse
Character AGE: 24
Character ABILITIES: Nothing supernatural, but her comprehensive training has given her an extremely extensive knowledge of martial arts. And life has given her the ability to be 100% unflappable in the presence of the weird and unusual. She also has a specialty in aircrafts, thanks to her pilot father.
Character HISTORY: Wiki. NOTE: I know it's the article for the comic, but the comic is a carbon copy of the TV show and this article offers a better overview. Here is the TV series article if you want that as well.

Character PERSONALITY: Wendy Watson is very far from the average twenty-four year old girl. Her psych evaluation says so. (Geez, and does she hate that thing. It always comes back no matter how many times she throws it out the car window.) Her entire life has been a preparation of being a defender of Earth. Her most noticeable, immediate quality is how well she reacts under pressure. Give Wendy something strange or scary, and she will remain one hundred percent level headed. Even prior to her Middleman life, things had been weird. It's to the point where not only does she handle it, she revels in it. Wendy will take on monsters of all sorts and she'll be excited for the prospect. She can roll with the punches better than just about anyone. That isn't to say that Wendy is necessarily a calm person. This violent video-game loving pacifist has many contradictions up her sleeve, but they mesh and join together to make a pretty cohesive whole. For instance, give her a hentai tentacle monster and she won't bat an eye. When she has to try and deal with a humiliating break-up, it's a thousand times more difficult. Her "emo," as she calls it, always stems from her personal life rather than her work.

She has a lot for which she feels passionately. Her friends and loved ones will always make the top of the list. Wendy is extraordinarily loyal and selfless, willing to sacrifice herself in a heartbeat for who those loves. Having been abandoned by her father at an early age (due to mysterious and as of yet unexplained circumstances), she knows the hurt of being left behind and works hard to ensure that she never does it to anyone else. Any time she breaks her cool, it tends to be for the people she calls family, whether it's her blood or the family she chose. She can become downright zealous in her defense of them. She has a deep sense for justice as well. Seeing the little guy wronged or hurt really grinds her gears. Her activist of a best friend and roommate has taught Wendy well. She cares about animal rights and gender equality. But more than anything, she just cares about people. She'll step in to protect someone defenseless where most others would not, even if she's wildly out of her depth.

She does have the tendency to bottle her emotions when she is stressed about something. Wendy's a protector at heart but she is also an artist. She wounds easily when it comes to her pride. She wants to handle her problems on her own, confiding in close friends only when she feels up to it. She wants to help, not need help. Another effect of her abandonment is the need to always be self-reliant. She likes to let frustrated or sad feelings out through various, strange methods, like playing Gut Wrencher 3 or painting horrific creatures or beating up a defenseless interrogation android. Her number one cure is diving into her work. She likes solving things and making herself useful. Wendy is stubborn to the core. She won't take help if she thinks she doesn't need it. She also has a problem with being hot-headed. She isn't the best with tact, especially when something important is on the line and she won't say she's wrong until the undeniable proof is staring her in the face. This can cause issues for her friends, as she'll sometimes get preachy about their life choices. Her heart is in the right place, but she can overdo it.

Wendy possesses a very sharp wit and at times kooky jargon. This has certainly enhanced thanks to her time with the Middleman, who is known for such euphemisms as "Sons of the Luftwaffte!" and "I'm as serious as a trashbag full of rottweiliers." She tends to have a quip for all situations, although hers aren't quite as out there. She enjoys a good verbal sparring, even if she swears up and down that she is not at all confrontatial and generally a delight. Wendy is intelligent and much more importantly, quick on the uptake. In short, she has what it takes to save the world.

» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON: She would end up being drawn to the Bo staff. There's a lot she could improvise with a weapon like that, especially if it learns to change with her needs (for instance, change its length or weight distribution).
Chosen SKILLSET: Wendy's really versaitile and could do (and has done) both. She's probably better off with the fighters, though.

First PERSON: [It's not the first time that she's had to deal with being yanked from her world and dropped off in another. It's also not the first time that she's been thrown headfirst into an Orwellian dystopia and expected to fix things. Wendy almost wants to laugh about the whole situation, as she did something so insanely similar just a couple weeks prior that it's like someone hit the repeat button on her life.

The problem is that this time, she is completely on her own. This isn't an evil parallel universe, this is brand new. There's no Noser guarding the door. There's no loft to guard. There's no Lacey. There's no Middleman to tell her what to do. And that makes it entirely different.

Still, when she appears on her little laptop screen to face the Brave New World, she looks fine. Wendy isn't entirely without information. She's perused the network and talked with creepy robe lady. She can handle this. Hopefully.

Soo. ... 'Sup?

[Great start, Watson.]

I hear we're saving the world. The Initiative, right? Anyone wanna sound off for me, maybe give me some intel for this thing? Because as wonderfully totally vague as Emperor Purple Robes was, I'm gonna need deets.

... She's not actually our emperor, right?

Third PERSON: There was something off. Wendy sat on her bed. She jumped up from it and paced around her newly assigned living space. She twirled her new Bo staff like a very large baton. She threw herself back on the bed, hanging upside down over the edge. She got on her netbook (since when are laptops this teeny?) and went through the older posts. She sat down at the counter. Wendy bounced around the room just as rapidly as her thoughts bounced around in her brain. She normally had someone to sound off against and keep her grounded. No such person existed here. Too many variables and theories kept cropping up. Was she being monitored right now? Was this actually just her tripping on Joe-90's brownies? She had just dimension-hopped recently, what if that messed with her molecular structure and she was no longer able to be bound to one universe?

"Pull yourself together, man." Wendy stopped pacing as she firmly spoke to herself. This is nothing highly unusual. She's beaten this level before, she can do it again. The settings were just on expert now. "Just gotta take it slow. Relax. You're a guided missile of purpose." With a nod, Wendy grabbed a pen and paper and sat on the bed once more, using her laptop as something to lean on. There had been no time to check for things like paint or canvass in the city, so drawing would work in a pinch. The pen glided across the paper, almost like it was doing it of its own accord. She's done the resistence thing before, why wasn't she on board with this one? They want to save the world. Literally part of her job description but this she couldn't swallow. Was it the crazy wall o' weaponry? No, they had the majority of those guns and gadgets back at Middleman HQ. Had it been the ominous greeting? That didn't feel right either.

Sketch finished, Wendy finally gave her artwork full attention. It was a pig in a military uniform, standing on a mangled pile of rats. Slightly morbid, but Wendy identified with her work. All of these people being pulled from their homes and forced into a war that wasn't theirs? Wendy would help, of course, that's what she did. The sheer amount of people on her little computer said that it was impossible that whatever had chosen them had chosen all people like her. Were they all even equipped for this sort of thing? How many had died in the attempt, never able to go back to their friends and family? How many were changed from normal people into soldiers? This so-called Initiative stank of stinky cheese. Her eyes fell on her new weapon. "Sentient, huh?" They had already given her an in to their inner workings. It seemed like she could also work for them and maybe gain favor that way. Save the world and figure out what kind of intentions they had. Oh yeah. She could do this.
